O/H wants to make a sort of DIY unit ( to contain fridge & freezer ). Probably a wooden framework. He intends to use a piece of granite as the top. How do you secure granite to the wooden frame ? I assume some kind of specialisd glue ?

Hi Somerset,
We've recently had a new kitchen fitted and have got granite worktops (large pieces of it as well). I believe that our kitchen fitter secured them to the cabinets with silicone. I was usually out at work when he was there but that was the only adhesive I ever saw as he used to leave his tools etc. at the house overnight.
Hope this helps.0 -
drill small holes under neath screw through the wood and intio the hole that now has filler in it..

Wrigleys chewing gum - NOT SUGAR FREE!! - is an excellent adhesive. It can be used to stick granite worktops, tiles and even car bumpers.
That is a little trade secret so keep it safe please.
Peppermint is better than spearmint IMHO.

Hi,
Noramal adhevsive is good/used for sticking it to units etc or stone glue for a ever lasting fixing which should luck have it you have to buy from a specialist.
https://www.harbrosupplies.com ask these guys they might only sell to trade but i get all my supplies from them so any probs pm me and i'll get it and send it to you.
Silicone to the units! WHAT! you do not do this as silicone is NOT A GLUE and any stone used to glue it with will move! and eventually will crack and break. Silicone is for undermounted sinks and upstand only.
Any questions just ask! :beer:0 -
Sorry its not normally adhesive! we use Grit fill to secure them sometimes depends on the size but for your bit you can.
Bought from any diy store! :beer:0 -
