Can you put a lock in your dustbin?

Daughter is haaving a terrible time with the downstairs flat tenants. They are using her bin and although she has had word with them about it, they continue to it. Please can somebody give us some advice, she is thinking of getting like a bicycle lock, but is not sure whether it will be long enough to do the job. I told her to be careful as I do not want her to have a row with the neighbours because of the bins. Any tips, please!! Thanks

I'm with you on that! Best avoid any rows - especially if someone is being as inconsiderate, as this, in the first place!

I suppose you could lock it, or if it's in a cupboard space, put one on there. But,. assuming they're doing it 'cos their bin is full 7 hers isn't, maybe it's better than trash being piled up, outside instead.

That's probably what these people would do, rather than create less waste, or take it to the tip!

Think I'd just put up with this inconvenience, to save the hassle!

Incedently, in one of our properties, our flats are in blocks of 4, with 2 bin cupboards, at each side. What some of the residents have done, is to use one cupboard for waste & one for recycling, rather than trying to store 2 types of trash, for one flat, in one cupbard.

It does mean sharing - but works OK, in most cases!!

I do not think, she would mind, but they put the wrong stuffs in the bin and she lives in Harrow and they are very strict. Their bins have not been collected and they are using hers. She is getting quite upset about it and she has just moved in the flat two months ago. She has challenged her and she said she is not the culprit. The other thing, they do is to park their car across her garage, she does not mind at first as she does not have a car. This is very inconsiderate as she rented the flat with a garage. She is keeping her bins in the garage and will ask them to leave the access free. I just hope, that's will be the end of it. I just cannot understand how people can be so inconsiderate and their mentality. The garage is not their, why park across it. If this problem does not resolve, daughter will complain to the EA. Thanks
  • Why doesn't she just put things in their bin??
  • i sometimes use my neighbours when ours is full and theirs is half empty but id normally only do this when theirs is out the night before the collection

Why is it such a problem - is she struggling now to empty her rubbish?

The OP has explained that the wrong things are being put in the bin and the council are strict on this.
