Gas usage - compensation?

Looking for some help regarding a situation at a property we rented.

Basicallt the Gas engineer came out to do the annual inspection/service of the boiler. When they left after a few days we noticed the boiler was not working correctly.

We tried to work out the problem with no joy.

We got in touch with the landlord to arrange for the company to come back out. Upon their return it turned out a spring had been knocked out and every time a hot tap was turned on the boiler would fire up for a bit and then try again and again. Overall this was for about a week.

We later recieved the gas bill for this quarter where we had used over 7 units a day during mar, apr may. Total cost for quarter £350. The only usage would have been hot water and a gas cooker. Normal usage for usat the moment is 1 unit a day.

Have tried claiming compensation and been offered £30 for inconvenience.

Any advice on what to do or where to go next?

    Best of luck!

If the boiler was cutting out shortly after it fired up, think about how much gas you would have used if it was working correctly and hadn't cut out!

(Perhaps not much more since the fault was probably only there for a tiny fraction of the 3 month period the bill was for)

P.S. Have you thought about switching supplier for your gas?
7 units per day equates to about 7000kWh over the 3 months (assuming you have a metric meter). Using someone like ebico, you could have bought that for £264 even at post Oct 2008 prices. Prior to that it would only have cost about £200

    Choose one of these options:
    • Construct a logical argument that the consumption of gas was due to some technical fault, metering error or other anomaly for which the Landlord or the Gas Fitter is responsible for
    • Forget about it
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?
