Energy threat from leaflet delivery scum

Your account is very interesting but I don't think any of it applies to my very straightforward situation (and many other folks) - easy access, no gates, no dogs, a large easy to use letterbox, etc, etc. No excuse for not pushing everything through, except pure laziness and a couldn't-care-less, unprofessional attitude. I delivered newspapers as a teenager, as well. I still deliver election-related leaflets these days. Some houses have vicious sounding dogs but there's no way they could get to my fingers, unless you stick your hand in too far! It's easy...push letterbox in a bit with left hand until you can force a newspaper all the way through with right hand. For leaflets, it's even easier. You can 'shove' them through so hard, when the letterbox flap is held open, that they may sometimes fly to the other side of the living room (at houses with no entrance hall, and no inner flap or those horrid brushes).

one minute George, the other month you told us how your heating bills were about 15pence per year due to the various methods employed, could it be that the postman is actually heating your house leaving the letterbox open?

No mistake, apart from yours! I said previously that I hoped to keep my gas bill to £25 per year, not 15 pence per year. I can't explain it, but without sabotage like the letterbox being left open, the interior temperature always seems to be about 8C above the outside temperature, without using much heat energy. Therefore, it's important I don't lose any of that small temperature advantage. Moreover, I said previously that I do turn on the gas heating when the interior temperature drops below 8 or 9C (within the £25 target). I do everything I can to use minimal energy and I don't see why I should be hindered by mindless people delivering free newspapers (heat loss and security issues) and leaflets (security issue only).

Queenie wrote:I have a sign up by my letterbox (home made - simply printed it off the computer) to discourage any leaflets/newspaper/cold callers/etc) It works 99% of the time - now, if I could just get the kebab shop in the other town from posting their menu's through ... I could boast 100%
Could you let us know the wording you use?
