just to throw a spanner in the works...
Do these plugs have another socket type thing near them that has a hole about the same size as a can of coke???
Can't say I even noticed when going round the house earlier...(but then I did go round looking only at the switches!!)... I will have another look around and report back..
Thank you0 -
So you do actually change the plugs to these funny round ones then?
Sounds like a great idea for christmas lights!!
Yes, change the plugs - if you can get hold of them. There are two main round pin plugs that you will see, and one is bigger than the other. The smaller ones (which I have) seem to be much harder to find.0 -
i think i'm right in saying they are for lighting and therefore on smaller cable and fuse. so they are round pins to stop you plugging the iron in and popping the fuse. Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0

Hi All,
The similar sockets with the larger holes will be 15A sockets!
All from the days before plugs had fuses in them so they can all work on the same system!
Cheers

In all the years that I was an electrician (Now retired) I never installed 5amp or a 15amp round pin socket. I did remove hundreds of them, while rewiring houses, however. I was surprised to see that they are still available.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
well thats a new one on me!
ive never heard of anyone installing a system like this on a modern house.
last time i saw the round plugs was in me grannys semi in about 1965.
id be shocked if i found a round plug in any house, nowadays.Get some gorm.0 -
I had them in a flat that was built about 7 years ago.0

We had them in OH's London flat (which he had as a corporate rental, very swanky portered building), again as a lighting ring main. IIRC there were no overhead lights in the living room in fact, just table lamps with the funny little plugs!I think the building had been refurbed in the mid 90s so all was very new & high spec.0
