A citi card nightmare - advice please

in Credit cards
Hi,
This is my first post on this forum, so please excuse any errors.
My Husband has a citi card, with a very large balance. He was recently made redundant and let them know.
He did not have cardholder protection, as there had been so many reports of people asking for this to be refunded, he didn't want to take it out.
He made an agreement with them, to make an immediate payment for £53, which he did (using my debit card with my permission). They then asked for him to make monthly payments of £158 (after going through his disposable income).
He has made this payment 10 days ago. Today, a citi-card telephone rep phoned to tell him he has NO agreement, they want him to pay £175 (which he cannot afford) and were very unpleasant.
They have taken to making up to 6 calls a day, which begin at 8am and continue to 9pm. I appreciate he owes money and this must be repaid, however, it's making us both ill worrying about them harrassing and "moving the goalposts continually".
He owes money on 4 credit cards, has 2 bank loans (which barclays are not happy to combine) and an overdraft. All the others have also agreed to arrangements.
He was also sent a letter from a local financial adviser which offers a "new scheme". Apparently there are a group of Solicitors who can right off all the debt and recover all payments made, but it's not an IVA or Bankrupcy?
I'm completely at a loss on what to do right now. Can anyone offer any advice or solutions?
Thanks for any time and assistance.

Sorry I have no advice on this except to say you might get more help on the debt free wannabe forum on this site - those guys have dealt with just about every type of credit card hassle and lived to tell the tale. They're also very generous with advice.
Good luck, sounds like a horrible situation0 -

You need to go on to the Deft free board. Do not sign up with any solicitor, they charge and the same services are avilable absolutely free through the correct agencies. In the interim, tell CITI when they next ring, that you do not authorise them to contact you by phone again, as this is harassment. tell them to to contact you in writing. back that up with a letter. there are templates for this letter available with all the legal terms in there. You will get a lot more guidance on the right board, so get over there!unsecured Debts at [strike]August 2007 £79,984[/strike] September £79,579 [STRIKE]Snowballing date July 2013[/STRIKE].
