Credit card or not to credit card

in Credit cards
Hi
I'm looking for approximately £1-2k credit between now and early January to help relocation costs and maybe plane tickets to Greece to visit a friend. I applied for a Sainsburys 0% card because it looked the best purchase card but was rejected. I was told on the phone it was only because my credit rating was low. Rejection letter and appeal procedure is in the post.
I may appeal but ultimately I am just looking for some cheap credit anywhere, whether its a 0% or not. I am a recent postgraduate with the usual student loan company loan and maxed out interest free student overdrafts, none of which I have to pay off quickly in up and coming months.
I have a permanent job (good pay) to start in late January and not worried about the debt but I wouldnt mind grabbing this credit some how or another without robbing a bank. Any suggestions? Should I appeal, try this skycard credit card or is it likely to be rejected too? Any other form of credit worth going for? I don't mind making it a priority to pay off in comparison to my other debts but as shown, I'm looking for the best deal.
Thanks.

hmmm just had a thought. I've had a HSBC student card with £1500 credit limit for 5 years. Always paid off my bills in full via DD each month.
I notice it says you cant apply for HSBC credit cards if you already have one on the internet banking site. Is it likely they won't let me upgrade my card so I can have the current HSBC 0% deal?0
