Egg Money Manager

I recently opened an account with Halifax, and been trying to add the details to my Egg Money Manager without success.
I keep getting an error message saying the site could be down or my log in details could have changed, yet I have no problem logging in direct with Halifax.
Has anybody else had any problems recently or been able to add the details satisfactorily?
Thanks.

I have had similar problems with the odd account, unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with all of them.

To be honest I thought it was a waste of time as some of the companies I have investments with would not let them have information. I now use Trustnet which, once you get used to it, is a great portfolio service. Also, you can see graph and performance tables for any unit trust/oeic etc that you own.

Jake's Gran. Eggs MM isn't used as a portfolio services, it just enables you to see all your bank accounts in one. Nothing to do with unit trusts etc.

Also I added Halifax to Egg MM the other day without problems.

I used to use Egg Money Manager but it kept failing to login properly or causing my browser to crash so I use first Directs Internet Banking Plus now which is much better and works every time even though it uses the same basic software as Egg MM.

Thanks Lokolo - still no luck but I'll keep trying.
What browser are you using? I wonder if that makes any difference.

EMM only works with IE (or Firefox with IEView or similar) as its an Activex control.

I don't think other banks will provide any internet (or other) fraud protection cover if you're using egg money manager, so be warned ;)

I don't think your assumption is really correct. I'll try to explain why.

Before you can begin to use the Egg Money Manager, you have to download Egg's special software to your own computer. It's the doing of this, that keeps all your specific Logon details on your own machine - and in an encrypted form, too.

When you Logon to the Egg Money Manager, in a sense, you are logging on to software on your own machine. And when you do that, you are required to use your own password details. It is these latter, that you have to be very careful with and not write down or leave lying around, etc, etc.

Thus, if you think about it, to log on to your bank through Egg Money Manager now requires you to use TWO lots of password details and not just the one lot required for your bank. Two is MORE SECURE than ONE, sorta kinda.

Of course, there are other ways to beef up your online security, such as changing passwords frequently and that kind of thing.

I can see where you are coming from though, because when Egg first launched the facility, lots of other banks didn't appreciate how it worked and thought that punters were actually passing over their secure details to Egg. In the doing of that, no one could speak for Egg's security and so it was really frowned on in a theoretical way.

Now it is better understood and widely accepted as being quite OK and, as I have explained, a punter is rather more secure with it than without it.

Thanks Docproc. I don't use it myself. Just thought I'd mention it as I've read threads on here where banks refused to cover fraud that occured when people were using egg money manager. Whatever the theory, it has caused problems for people ;)
