Replacing floor boards

Quick question. I have some floor boards on the upstairs landing that have been pulled up so many times that the grroves have worn away and they creak. I've had a new staircase fitted and they screwed down some mdf board so I wanted to remove the existing floorboards and replace with some boards to screw down - no squeak and they can be removed and replaced easily for access. Now - what thickness or type of board is the best to use for the job?

What is the problem. The board that you put down should be the same thickness as the existing boards. The only problem that you might have is that the old boards will be an imperial size and the new ones will be metric. Are you sure that they put down mdf, most floors today are chipboard. Any way, it doesn't matter if you are going to replace the whole floor. If you are not then you might need to pack the mdf /chipboard to get it to match the thickness of the old boards. You probably need 19mm thick board. If you are providing an access then you do not need tongued and grooved boards.I can afford anything that I want.
