It really isn't my week where computers are concerned! I have a HP Compaq nx6110 laptop that has stopped working. It just will not power up. When I plug it into the mains the battery light flashes orange continuously and the laptop will still not power up. Any ideas please?

Have you tried it without the battery in , just run from the mains.
Might be a faulty battery

Right tried it again - results as follows:
just with battery it's dead,
without battery but with power lead in it's dead,
but with battery and with power lead I'm getting the flashing battery light and the fans came on but still won't power up.

Thats a faulty battery...i think, but if the battery is faulty it should work with just mains, so that is very weird, could be something in the BIOS but i doubt it... has the fuse in ur power lead gone??0

Thanks for that - tried most of the suggestions in there and power lead is not over hot. Will see if we have a multi-meter to check it when OH gets out of bed!0 -

Its normaly a low power output from the charger(inside the laptop) or the amps the power unit live out are to low i think the hp run on about 18 volts and something like about 2-3 amps if either one of the is off even by the slightest amount it will throw a fault so you may find a new power unit will do the trick, for the hp there about the £70 mark0
