Why should the UK govt charge me for something i have bought and already paid tax on abroad? Its criminal.

So you don't believe anyone should pay customs duty, excise duty and/or import VAT on goods imported into the UK?

No. I wouldn't. But i would support the personal limits to be raised by something more realistic.

I see the issues with imports though, but there is a huge difference to someone flying to the US, buying a Laptop, PS3 a couple hundred quid worth of A&F and a few bottles of Jack for good measure and someone bringing back an iso container full of Nintendo DS's from Hong Kong.

    Well
Once again I have returned from the Canaries and once again have brought in over the limit of tobacco without being stopped in the green channel. The law regarding this is stupid as the Canaries are owned by Spain. As for travelling to Spain to get my goods it would cost more than buying them here so I will carry on doing what I do regardless of the pettyness of people trying to say "the law is the law". it isn't and that is proved time and time again with people with money or status getting away with things that 'normal' people would be taken to task for.

    Are you proud of yourself?

Would you be boasting if you nicked something from Tesco and didn't get caught? I see nothing different in what you are describing in your post.
    Gone ... or have I?

    Yes dmg24
I am proud that once again I have managed to save myself some money by paying the tax on goods in the country I bought them in.I did not steal them from the shop, I just paid the going rate as I do if I shop in any shop in this country. I have stolen nothing from this country by doing what I have done I have just saved myself a few pounds that will do me more good than it will the British goverment.
I take it by your response that you are the type of person that {on finding money in the street} will take it to the police and also after booking a holiday {or seeing goods cheaper than you have paid} go back and ask to pay the extra or if you are handed too much change by a member of staff would always point out the error:rolleyes:

Try as a 'normal' person being charged with murder and see if you can still walk the streets pending your trial or become a goverment person and get away with legal robbery;)

Yep there's a difference, but it's one of scale rather than one of kind.
