    River Island do gift receipts, but they extend the normal receipt policy of 28 days during Christmas period anyway. You can get full refund/exchange with normal receipt, credit note or exchange with gift receipt.

    I used to work at RI and just wanted to add to this as they do gift reciepts but you do have to ask for them, if you don't, you don't get it validated and its just the same as any receipt and ends after 28 days. They may have changed the policy as I changed to work for arcadia last year before xmas 2007 but we did have a whol load of "dissatisfied customers" who had not got validated receipts in xmas 2006!

    Gap, La Senza & Boden offer gift receipts and free (branded) gift boxes lined with layers of tissue too. I think they all offer extended exchange periods too so safe to buy a bit in advance.
    Avoid Primak like the plague for Xmas presents, they make absoutely no allowance for buying early & returning/exchanging late and even if you exhchange within the time period they only exchange at the reduced sale price if the item has been discounted, regardless of what the receipt says!
    HTH;)

    I was given a gift receipt for an item someone bought me from Marks, I couldn't get a refund just vouchers.

    I asked the CS staff why this was and she said the receipt is just to prove how much was paid.:confused:

    I suppose if you buy someone a gift-you don't expect them to claim the cash

    :confused::confused: I was answering your original question:confused::confused:

    I was actually bought quite an expensive handbag by my MIL, I really didn't like it and couldn't find another in Marks I liked. She was more than happy for me to get a refund and look elsewhere, I was not cashing in on the gift.

    If I'd bought someone a gift they didn't like i would rather them return it and get a refund or something else they do like, better than shoving it in a drawer somewhere;)

    Does anyone know about returning gifts to john lewis without receipt
  • Next, Marks and Spencers and Debenhams do aswell. Not sure for definite but I think Zavvi and HMV do aswell. Mostly it's the big name high street stores.

    Zavvi are doing NO refunds at the moment as they are in administration and are probably being strict on exchanges without receipt.

    I worked for HMV over Christmas and til 31 January, you can exchange without a receipt. You can have items of the same CURRENT value, or if less then you'll get the change on a gift card, and if more you pay the excess. Yu can also just have a gift card for the same current value of the items. They only exchange if there is some proof it came from HMV, so if no receipt or bank statement is available it MUST have HMV price stickers on it. Or else they cannot prove a thing; it could have been bought anywhere. HTH.
