parking ticket help!

Back in July I recieved a parking ticket on my car. It was for the 2nd of July at around 1:30pm. I was parked around the corner of my house as there were no spaces on my road. The back wheels of my car were a tiny bit over the dropped curb, which at the time i did not notice. When i got the ticket i payed and thought nothing of it.

About 4 weeks later I received a pcn notice saying that I hadn't payed my fine. I then phone up the office and was told by one of their workers that I had been issues two tickets on my car, the first being on the 2nd and the next on the 3rd ar around 7:20am. I told her that there was only one ticket on my car! She told me that because the tickets were issued within 24hrs of each other then I did not have to pay for the other one. She also told me that the ticket was issued by the same parking officer and that it was an unfair ticket as he did not leave the second ticket on my car. I was told to write a letter saying what happened and she gave me ref. number to include with the letter.

I did this and thought that it was all cleared up. On Friday I received another letter telling me that I now have to pay £180 for the ticket that I didn't get! I again phone up the office and was told that they did not recieve the letter and that I still have to pay, even though there was no ticket issued on my car! I told them exactly what I had been told to do by one of their workers and also gave them my ref. number but he just ried to get me to pay right then and there!

I am now very confused as to what I have to do as I am not going to pay for this extra ticket as it was not issued on my car, there are no photographs of it on my car and the first i knew of it was about 4/5 weeks after it whould have been issued, so I didn't even have a chance to appeal or pay the lower amount!

Can anyone out there advise me on what to do and what my rights are on this issue. Do you know if it is illegal for a ticket to not be put on my car but then be sent a letter telling me that I have to pay the higher amount?

Thank you very much for looking.

Your best bet is the parking forum on https://www.pepipoo.com.

It may be that the tickets are not worded correctly, or there is some other legislation that the council have failed to comply with. How it works is that if they want to enforce the law, then they too have to abide by the rules that are set out for them.

On pepipoo, they will want the full story, together with scans of the tickets and photos of the site of the contravention, so that they can give you some proper advice.

    HTH.

  • collect everything you have in writing, keep a diary of calls
  • Post pics of the area where your car was parked too and scan in the PCN, through pepipoo I managed to get my unfair ticket cancelled.
