hope this is the right place
I bought 2 laptops from currys this year April and within a month of having them BOTH hardrives broke sent them off and they were repaired
Last week the S key on one and down key on the other fell off again sent them in for repair when they came back they WERNT mended they said it had been done on purpose and was my responsability to mend them
Phoned the shop up were i got them and they said all they could do was send them back to the repair department but i would only get the same answer
Does anyone know where i stand on getting these mended as there still under guarantee
There were defo not done on purpose and seems very strange that both times its happened to both laptops i dont think it could be this coincidental

You have not given enough detail0

Enough detail given for me. Yes they should repair them. Send a letter to Curry's Managing Director or someone senior saying someone should contact you within seven working days. If no one contacts you in that time frame you will get them repaired by an independent repairer and then send them a bill. Failure to pay that bill will see a claim through the courts.0

Could be mis-use, regarding the harddrives, were they same manufacturers then I reckon it COULD be a fault with the drives else its user-missue
As for the S key falling off, that maybe due to overheating of the Mobo or other component, do you have whateverhappens on the laptop? if so the repairs are free else its right you have to pay.
re-read the post, the manufacturer would be responsible and not "the techguys" as they are a seperate repair company and would charge.0 -
Hi there, the people you spoke to at Currys are incorrect! You are the customer and a most important component of us "the employee" keeping our jobs. I am sorry these ignorant people you spoke to do not understand this. First off knowone can accuse you of mis-use, that is defermation of character, keys do fall off! In all Currys stores we have engineers that visit (the Tech Guys) for one reason or another, in my store we would ask them to reattach the key(a very simple job for an engineer) and hey presto another happy customer. Why some people cannot be empathetic to others needs is beyond me. I suggest speaking to the manager of the store and requesting a repair PLEASE do not approach with a bee in your bonnet as this will just get his/her back up, any good manager will understand that it will be in their interest and yours to repair this item. If this person is uncooperative ask them where there FIVES traing is now(watch their expression change). PM me if you want more info or help or post a reply.0

this is too often the wrong view given off by retailers.
The sales of goods act as amended 1979, states that
"It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract"
Conforming to contract includes being fit for purpose, a hard drive that breaks after 6 months clearly is not fit for purpose and therefore it is the retailer and not the manufacturers responsibility.
The retailer may take this up directly with the manufacturer but the retailers tend to try and fob you off that you have to take this up with the manufacturer when thats not the case.0 -

Well I think your company loyalty is admirable but I won't ever use Currys again. The customer service in my experience is 97% diabolical, with a small minority of staff that actually care what they are doing.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

And yet again another consumer doesn't fully understand the law (no I don't work in retail before you start) - after 6 months has passed the onus is on the customer to prove that the goods were inherantly faulty ie that they didn't snap the key off through missuse. So all this threatening and posturing will get the op nowhere if they can't prove they didn't pull the key off.0
