return flight changed

Hi - just looking for a bit of advice..just returned from trip to Toronto with Canadian Affair. We booked a return journey flying with Thomas cook airlines...But a few days before we were due to fly canadian affair rang and said they had cancelled the flight back to manchester and were combining us on a flight to Gatwick with Air Transat and then a 4 hour wait for a connecting flight to manchester. we were packed like sardines with Air Transat and resulted in a very tiring jouney arriving in Manchester 8 hours later than we should have done - are they allowed to do this as I had booked a reurn back to Manchester flying with Thomas Cook as they had leg room of 35 ".Thanks in advance

Have a good read on major changes and aircraft/airline substitutions in the terms and conditions.

Even if you cant claim for the delay you may want to try claiming on the basis that you book a long leg room seat but that was not provided (try and quote Air Transat seat pitch).
