How do I compare prices, by kWh, £ or units?
Im currently with Scotish Power, was Pricefall but as from 1st nov going onto new plan.
Monthly DD going from £60 to £81 dual fuel.
Looking to switch, I have looked at energyhelpline comparisons but not sure how to compare.
Do I put the monthly figure in as £60 or £81? As the £60 was a discounted rate, then its not acually a 'true' reading is it?
I have looked on here but thers a lot of talk of units and kwh......confused!!!!
Naturally I will use cashback/comparison to switch
Any advice welcome

Best to use annual use in kwh.
For elec, units (on your meter) and kwh are the same.
Gas meter units are either metric (cubic metres) or imperial (cubic feet). These units are converted to kwh.
Look at your current charges for kwh elec and gas so you compare the suggested switches. DDs mean very little - your supplier can change these at any time and depend on your usage.0 -
kwh because that is how much energy you use, £'s is what you pay for it, and that will change every year, so it is a poor method of comparison.0

I'm wondering if there are any on-line tools that will enable me to convert my weekly metre readings into actual cost? Obviously I know my current tarrif and understand that the charges are tiered, but I still wouldn't mind being able to be able to generate some figure. I always view the first tier prices as the old standing charge, but with a few khw/units thrown in for good measure. So really I would be working off the second figure.

There's a spreadsheet linked in the first post of this thread that will do this for you.0
