Nationwide Savings Rates from Saturday

http://www.nationwide.co.uk/mediacentre/pdf/rates-20081101.pdf

In the best tradition they have left it to the last* to confirm that some rates will be cut by 0.6% (not 0.5%) and they are now serious contenders in the Halifax Gold stakes - Cashbuilder rates now start at 0.90%pa!

*Some time around 5.30 of 31/10 I would guess as I kept checking this morning and afternoon and it wasn't there yet

In 6 months time members of this forum will be chasing rates of 3 - 4% AER as a good rate. As I posted elsewhere, I am moving out of cash and back into investments. Cash is no longer a good earner on interest rates. Now where's that handcart

  • But surprisingly, the e-savings rate, which has tracked the BoE base rate in recent years, has stayed unchanged at 5.05%

Apologies for my error. I made the mistake of looking at their web page for e-savings which still advertises the "great" rate of 5.05%, even at 11.35pm on 31 October. Isn't that a bit sneaky given that this rate will be superseded in less than half an hour?

I used the telephone to confirm the new esaver rate as aspects of their web pages were out of sync with their headline savings page. This problem was resolved during the call, Perhaps it was an internet page caching issue that created a delay in the broadcast of the situation. This is only my my interpretation of the delay.

Nationwide is my primary current account holder (First Class Performance). They have my mortgage too. They will lose the bulk of my savings soon.
What about mortgage linked ISA and savings Nationwide ?

Looks like Nationwide - Proud to be Different! - is really widening its margins with the latest changes to saving and mortgage rates. The YBS Internet Saver has only gone down from 5.7% to 5.5% and is now a much better account than the Nationwide e-saver. Newcastle Netsaver7 also offers 5.5% after the latest cuts but does not have a Link card.
