netgear wg111

Hello

We have a netgear dg 834 which is installed on my sons computer ,last night he had a windows update it installed when he turned it off. upon turning his computer on this morning aol would run and he could get on line , but the green netgear wg111 indicator is staying red, upon trying to load his online games he could not connect to it so he tried another game and he had the same problem, also he is not able to log on to msn, we have switched the wg 111 from the computer in another room and this has not solved his problem, could anyone help us with what the problem may be.
He did do a sytem restore but this has not helped.

Thanks for any help :xmassign:

  • Try installing the drivers from the CD again.

See also WG111 USB Wireless Family Support and choose the support page for your version of the hardware.

Thanks for the tip, we tried this but still no joy.
After writting this post i checked the netgear support site, and there was an update which appeared to be done sometime this month for the WG111, something to do with a windows XP sp 2 problem. I downloaded the fix and ran the program but it had no effect.

We have also tried swapping the WG111 with the one on our other computer which is working fine, but even that didnt work upstairs on the computer that the router is connected to.

I dont understand why he can get online via AOL and surf the net but not play on his Online games. Its very strange.

    Hope someone can help

    Thanks in advance

you should have a netgear smart wizard icon on your desktop
run this-click networks tab- highlight your network (after scanning) - click connect - you may need to enter your pass phrase in the settings tab if youve got WEP selected - click apply

Ok well the thing is green now which is a great, thanks very much.
But, he can still not connect to his MMORPGs Or MSN 7.5 (he can connect to yahoo however)

What can we do to fix this?

Just another thing - He can connect to Windows messenger, But not MSN 7.5.

Also the games he cannot connect to are

    - City of Heroes / Villans (It says there is a patch to download, which there is but it says it will take 3652 hours)
And Battlefield 2 / BF2 Special Forces (he can only connect to the servers on this game he has set as his Favs and it wont load anyothers in the server selection box)

sounds like your firewall may be blocking it - either a s/w firewall on your pc or a hardware firewall on your router
