Cancelling Debit Card Payment??

I made a debit card payment to my Morgan Stanley Card in Error. I made the payment at 23:00 last night.

Is there any way I can cancel the debit card payment so it does not go out my account? I spoke to Morgan Stanley first and they said the only was to cancel it was to phone my bank (who are Smile). I phoned them and they said that the transaction had already been authorised and therefore could not be cancelled in any way. Is this right? And if so do I have any other way to cancel the transaction?

The only way to cancel a debit card transaction is by contacting the party taking the payment. They can stop the processing of the debit, however your bank will keep the authorisation for upto 10 days against your account. In this case only Morgan Stanley would be able to prevent the debit going through.

I'm assuming you have a balance on the morgan stanley. If you didn't then morgan would have to refund your money.

I agree with inmpocketnottheirs, its up to morgan stanley to stop the payment to go through. Get on the phone and give em grief.
