Driver's door glass keyed.

I found that someone had keyed a big gash into the driver's door window of my car today. I've got a spare door, so it's not a big problem, but I wondered why someone would do it. I don't have any local enemies (that I know of!).

It's an 18 year old BMW with manky paintwork. It's parked in a car park behind a load of houses, next to a larch lap fence with an alleyway going past it.

My only guess is that they were looking to steal it, saw the steering disc lock, gave up, and keyed with window out of spite.

Either that or it was just pointless vandalism. Despite being a quiet area, a neighbour had the roof of his car jumped on a few months ago.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this sort of vandalism for no reason.

I bought a black puma second hand about 5 years ago. It was pretty much immaculate and I was so pleased with it - it was the first time I had ever bought myself a "nice" car. Within two weeks of getting it, someone keyed down the whole side of the car - practically headlamp to rearlight.

In addition, about three months ago, kids decided to have a great time running up the front of cars and smashing the windscreens. They did 12 cars. Right outside our houses! Worst thing is nobody saw a thing!

We reported this incident to the police when we discovered it next morning and they actually sent down the forensics team and got hand and trainer prints. No news since on whether they subsequently caught anyone.

Other than the windscreen, OH's car was ok and the windscreen was covered by insurance, but he had to miss a customer meeting and it wrote off his whole day.

    Some people are just scumbags.

If the gash isn't very deep you might reduce it's appearance with some sort of glass polish like the t-cut or autoglym one. Probably easier to replace the whole door/just the glass though to be honest.

Really sorry to hear whats happened to you tom - my guess would be mindless vandelism

A couple of weeks ago some scum broke into my mum and dads (age 78) garage (I think they tried the house but it really is fort knox) anyway when they discovered they could not get into the car and that my dad who is a OCD garage tidier had left nothing for them to sell at the local car boot sale they decided to deep scratch every panel and the roof.

My dad decided not to claim on his insurance in case he couldnt get a new policy next time so ended up very very out of pocket:mad:

I can only hope karma really does exist

There is a company called Glassweld that has a system that can remove scratches from glass if they are not too deep you should be able to get someone locally that will come and give you an estimate, it might be cheaper getting a new glass fitted but the estimate will be free so no harm done.

I've got a spare door, so I can just swap the glass over.
