I believe most combis have a divertor valve which is controls whether the water goes to central heating or hot water so that could be where your problem is. You really need to get someone to look at the boiler (Corgi registered, not just a plumber)
  • Divertor valve for mine was about £35 so don't get stung and my son replaced it for me, a couple of bolts
  • thanks for your help, the last plumber was corgi registered, but i will have a look for another one to do the job. thanks again

Demand a refund from that plumber or take it to Trading Standards.

£40 is a very fair call out charge...

if he happens to of been wrong then phone trading standards but otherwise there is nothing wrong with his charge...

At the end of the day it is his proffesional advice you were paying for

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. First of all as stated £40 is a fair charge, the guy found nothing wrong with your boiler, he could have quite easily found a "problem" and charged you a packet for it ;)

I would almost put money on your thermostat being set to come on at a minimum temperature. I have ours set at 15 degrees. Regardless of whether the CH is on or off if the temp goes below 15 degrees it will come on.

Bear in mind we have had some pretty cold nights this week.

    Cheers
