right ive sealed up the gap around the bath /tiles with proper bathroom mould resistant silicone
say 4 months on and its lifting /peeling on the edges where you wipe over it with a cloth , and theres the odd black spot
ive redone it several times and its getting a chore
any ideas on doing a job that lasts well? its a plastic bath against tiles

Should last longer than 4 months, in fact more than 4 years!!
Sorry but will have to start with the obvious questions
Did you get off all the old sealant?
Was the bath/tiles clean and dry ?
Did you fill the bath ?0 -
Did you wipe the area with something like white spirit before applying? This removes any traces of grease that might stop the silicone adhering properly. Make sure the spirit is completely dry before applying.
A plastic bath with flex more than a metal one, so its worth ensuring the bath is filled so it is in the lowest position before applying silicone and then leave filled until the silicone has set. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

yes all cleaned off and dry
wiped with alcohol
bath filled overnight
as far as i can see it was done 100% right but its not lasting like it should0 -
Might be the silicon, some of the cheap stuff for around £2 isn't that good. Are you sure its silicon and not just bath sealant. Silicon should last at least 8 years unless there is some other problem0

its silicone and the tube states its for bathrooms , baths etc
tbh its no better than the cheapie stuff...maybe i need another brand0 -
Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)0

Filling the bath will cause it to flex to a lower position, but don't forget that when you bath it will flex slightly more as it has the added body weight as well as the water. I have in the past had to resort to "chocking up" under the bath to restrict any further movement. A bit of a harsh step to take but on that occasion it certainly did the job.My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08

Some of these silicone sealants are mould resistant, others are not. Also, you really need to wipe it down when you've had a bath because leaving the area wet will allow spores to develop into black mould.0

thanks for the replys so far
yeah we do wipe it over now..hence the edges lifting
it is a fairly large gap , would i be best run one bead to fill the actual gap , then a week later run another one to tidy it ...or just one fat bead?
i'll try that screwfix stuff next time0
