Microsoft Narrator and Magnifier

My wife's laptop(Vista) has just started switching on with Microsoft Narrator and Magnifier enabled
Other than exit the programs each time, I can't find any way to disable the programs. However I am but a simple XP user!
Reading the inadequate help files are no assistance.
In 'switching on/off windows features' doesn't help as Narrator and Magnifier are not mentioned.
Also in 'startup' I can't see them mentioned.
Any ideas please?
