Hi
I have been reading previous posts about lapland and some of the chalets in austria etc ..... i have done a search and read through the posts.
This is something i'm really interested in for new year. Lapland looked perfect as i dont want to ski but fancy doing the other activites and i love the sound of staying in the chalet. Can anyone point me in the direction of anywhere else to look, i dont want to end up in a skiing resort with nothing else to do.
I've looked on last minute and Inghams but just need some friendly advise really on other locations. Looking to fly out on the 27/28th December for a week.
Any help would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance

Austria is a great place to go for New Year as they celebrate with fireworks. I would suggest choosing a bigger resort that is picturesque and not too far from a larger town. There are many to choose from but Mayrhofen springs to mind, as a larger village or you could choose somewhere smaller such as Alpbach, which isn't far from Innsbruck. Another possibility would be St Gilgen, which is not far from Salzburg, and very pretty as it is on the edge of a lake (it's one of the locations for the Sound of Music).
As for things to do, there are many in most areas. Apart from skiing (downhill or cross country) there are often sleigh rides, curling, swimming indoor and outdoor! And of course the traditional gluwein up in the mountains after a ride up a chair lift.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Hi - We went to Lapland for Christmas in 2006, we left on New Years Eve just as all the parties were getting started but it looks like everyone has parties and Fireworks. We did do some Skiing but if you dont fancy that there were plenty of other activities - Snow Mobile, Husky Sled Ride, Reeindeer Sleigh Ride, Visits to the Ice Hotel and just general fun in the snow. We booked a beautiful log cabin in the middle of the woods, with open fire and sauna - It was amazing.
I'd definately recommend Lapland for a winter holiday, the most memorable holiday i've ever had. I'm thinking of going back in February (when its cheaper!)
For the best prices try Inghams, Neilson (Part of Thomas Cook), Thomsons and Cosmos - and always do 7 nights rather than a short break as its much cheaper.
