Help please, b.gas paid bill but just done credit check and they put default on it

Options
Please help.

I switched companies ages ago and paid british gas off the balance, they kept coming after me for £300 odd pounds but i had paid it, they even sent a man round to collect the money and still they kept sending money, i spent a fortune on phoning them and b gas trying to tell them i have paid it, NOBODY listened.

I checked my credit rating today and noticed that they have put a default on my account and it has now affected my credit rating, i can prove that we paid the amount to them but just dont know what to do now.

Thanks for your time reading this I'm so worried

If you search this forum you will find the complaints address for BG. Write to them with copies of bills, proof of payment etc and ask them to (a) stop chasing you for an amount you have paid and (b) they correct you credit reference will all agencies they have advised. You may also want to claim the phone calls from them.

Stop wasting money on phone calls & put your complaint in writing to British Gas, together with evidence you have supporting your claim that you have paid the outstanding debt - their complaint procedure is on the back of the gas bill.

Until you can convince British Gas they have made an error, then the default will stay on your record - well until the time it would normally expire (6 years I think).

You would have been sent a default notice informing you that BG were applying a default to your file.

You could write to the credit reference agency instead, but based on what you have already posted, they won't do anything other than contact BG to see if they agree with your complaint. You may as well go direct to British Gas and save time.
