My view is I wouldn't live in anything other than a detached house as my life has been made misery by different sorts of noise coming through party walls in the past.
I don't care if they are not as cheap to heat [though I have no complaints about my heating bills, they are reasonable] as it is worth it to have peace.

If there will be a shortage in the future that would be regretable for there are always those who need to know their lives aren't controlled by inconsiderate, selfish, noisy, bullying neighbours. It is essential to their well-being.
People's choices should not be restricted because of profit for the builder/council.

Exactly the reason I chose to buy detached. You would not want to live in a semi next to me !

I'm a guitarist who plays loud, have a 7.1 dolby setup just to play computer games and a son who plays games loud as well. We also have a home theatre system that rocks the house and therefore wouldn't be able to live the way we want to in anything other than detached. We deliberatly chose detached purely for these reasons.
