PC does not see mobile attached via data cable

I have tried suggestions from a previous post but haven’t found a solution, so any other ideas welcome. I have a Samsung SGH-X680 mobile. When I attach it to my PC with a data cable, the mobile does not display as an option in My Computer. I can’t find any setting on the phone that would hide it from my PC, I’ve checked the cable is pushed well in both ends, and I’ve downloaded the latest software from the Samsung website. Still my PC does not recognize the mobile device attached to it. Any other ideas? Thank you.

I had this problem with my Samsung Toco and spent ages trying to solve the problem, including downloading all the updates. What worked for me was to remove the PC Studio programme and the driver for the phone from my computer and reloading them from the disk, rather than downloading from the net.

is it a flip phone? sometimes they need to be opened for it to establish the conneciton. also - is it the cable that was supplied with the phone, my data USB cable that worked for my old motorola v220 wont work with my new motorola W377 but the cables look identical . (and the old cable and phone still transfers so it isnt a cable fault).
