goto to the observatory at the top . it has great views of LA . you will probably need a car to get all the way up there though
other than that it is just a public park . parking is plentiful in the park
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
thanks for that...im keen to see that view myself
what else is there to do there? not sure i can be bothered with the zoo
how long should i allow?0 -
i pretty much grew up in that park! it is well used by locals.
on one side of the park (los feliz enterance) there is a trail at the bottom with a ranger education facility(ferndale) and you can hike from there to the observatory. you can get maps of all the trails there.
also on that side are gentle walks along a stream among ferns, where you can picnic etc.
also pony rides and a mini railroad for the kiddies.
on the burbank side there is a merry-go-round, travel town (an open air museum with trains etc you can climb on), an equisterian centre and the zoo.
the autry museum is new to me as I left 30+ years ago so i can't say.
your highlights depend on if it is just you or kids too. definately go to the observatory and make sure to see a planaterium show. the observatory was used as a film set in so many productions! and inside are displays on minerals and astronomy, with a camera obscura thrown in for fun. (it was built as part of the wpa programme after the last depression- timely, eh?)
the rest depends on who is with you and what you like to do. the zoo tries hard but has got nothing on san diego.
enjoy your trip.0 -
wolfhouse...its just us 2 adults going
weve done the san deigo zoo before so im not sure its worth doing this one
what entrance should i look for coming from orange county..guessing i'll be on the 5?0 -
if you are coming from orange county you'd probably be coming through to
things have obviously changed a lot since i was a kid...
personally, i wouldn't bother with the zoo.
if you want to drive up the hill go early (and on a weekday)if you want to be in with a chance of parking...they now have a shuttle bus to the observatory connecting up to the sunset-vermont 'red line' underground service.
