Benefits I'm entitled to

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. I work full time but I am wanting to give this up to be a full time mum. I've always been under the impression that I could never afford to do this. My partner is also in full time employment, but his wage isn't fantastic one. The only problem I have is that when I want to find out if I would be eligible to claim any benefits, no one can give me information because I am currently still employed. I do not want to give up my job first and then find out I'm not eligible to claim for anything, also some place want to know last years income as opposed to our current income which sounds to me that I won't be able to claim for anything!! Help!

tax credits will initially work on last years (which your current payments are based on), but if you know your income is going to be less this year you can phone and give them the figures -- which they will then use to adjust your claim immediately.

Just to add to that that tax credits are pretty much going to be all you'll get. Leaving a job, you'll be sanctioned on JSA and income based JSA would be cancelled out by your OH's income.

You could go onto www.entitledto.com just using the figures for your income should you give up work.It isn't always 100% accurate but should give you an idea, remember it gives entitlement for the whole year and we are part way through though.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
  • Remember that you are assessed as a couple and your partners income will be counted when applying for means tested benefits, however it may still be possible to get housing/council tax benefits on the basis of low household income
