Protective wall covering - any ideas?

Just about to give my downstairs cupboard a face lift. It will only be for push chairs, shoes and golf clubs etc.
I am busy at the moment sanding the walls and then intend to apply white emulsion. However, I was wondering if there was anything that I could easily apply or stick onto the walls to save them from being bumped and scraped etc?
Not sure if there is anything out there that fits this bill. I was thinking something like plastic T&G just to go half way up around the wall. I don't really want to go down the wood route.
Not really sure - any creative ideas out there??

polycarbonate is best option. perspex may crack on installation.
