Thoughts on what colour to paint coving

Just had a lot of coving put in/up and about to have everywhere repainted but wondered what your views are on colour to paint the coving and whether to paint the ceiling the same as the walls. It will be a soft creamy colour Dulux Calico.

Or do you paint coving to match the woodwork --- white?

We have coving almost everywhere. It's all white, the same as the ceilings. Our skirtings and door and window facings are hardwood which is varnished.

I once painted the coving a darker co-ordinating colour with the walls, and hated it. It just drew my eyes to this line around the ceiling. Plus, it's a LOT of awkward cutting in to do if it's a different colour than the ceiling and walls.

Just re-read your post and Calico might be okay everywhere though. It's neutral and light. It just comes down to personal taste.

I hope it is a good colour as we found we have got through quite a few match pots before deciding. So many of the colours seem to give off a pinkish colour and we wanted to stick with the creamy autumn colur range.

We love it, it looks quite a warm colour and not too dark is less well lit rooms.
It goes well with a variey of woods too, we have oak furniture/floor in some rooms and Birch in one or two and it suits both.;)
We tried lots too, but didn't like the yellowy or pinky creams.
Several of our family have used it after seeing ours, I don't think you'll be disappointed.;)

To give you an idea what it looks like, in our spare room we have white coving, white ceiling (dulux soft sheen pure brilliant white), white woodwork (dulux oil-based satinwood), with Dulux Ivory matt on the walls.
Just took a picture from my desk:

Must get round to painting that door - it's been like that since March!

keep to white it makes the coving stand out more if you were to have a ornaite cornice then i would have sugested picking out a part in cornice using the colour from the walls. Only my thought though

White, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white......

:D Are you sensing how strongly I feel about this? :D

I have twice painted coving a colour and hated it both times. The first time it was painted the same colour as the walls and it just looked odd so I painted it white to match the ceiling. The second time, I'd forgotton how bad it was the first time and picked an accent colour out of the tiles below (it was in a bathroom) and painted it that colour. I then remembered why it looked better white to match the ceiling and painted it over again. :rotfl:

If you're there for ages, do it whatever way/colour suits you...if you're going to be moving at any time in the near future...paint it white.

I'd have a white ceiling in preference to ceiling and walls matching btw.

It's all personal taste though isn't it? :)

If you paint the ceiling and walls with the calico, and the coving white, it'll look stunning.
We did this in our old house and it looked fab
