New build heating boilers - huge things !

Bene looking at new build and recent build properties and noticed the heating system consists of a huge bioler device in an upstairs cupboard. These things are 5 feet tall at least and take up a full airing sized cupboard. These is also a smaller box in the kitchen/utility. Are these any good, how do they work and are they economical to run ?

Are they gas or electric? Do they feed radiators?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

think your talking about a thermal store (thing in cupboard)
very useful if youve got 2 or more bathrooms (i.e. you can have two showers running at same time) plus gives you hot water on tap....i.e. you dont have to wait for the combi to heat the water to get hot....it keeps water hot...in the store....so when you turn on tap....water comes out hot......then boiler starts runnign to replace hot water used up....does this make sense
a plumber will give you more definative answer
...personally.....i would have one.....(but it does depend on the size of your house).....
plus if your thinking of going green think about gettiing one such as a gledhill torrent RE (approx £100 more than standard gelhill torrent) means you can link it up with solar panels at later date.......(to heat your hot water)0 -
the smaller box in the kitchen/utilty is the boiler0

Gas, feed radiators.
Three bathrooms so i guess it's a good idea.
How about being economical ?0 -
I think the seller could provide you with calculations, but I think they wouldn't put them in if they weren't reasonably efficient.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

as far as i'm aware it does make it more efficient.......dont quote me on this but i also think it makes your boiler last longer....because it doesnt have to work as hard........a plumber will advise better.........some people advise that you get a boiler one sixe down than that recommended because of it0
