mouse problem

hi!

hoping someone out there can help me. when i use the mouse, instead of showing as an arrow or a hand, very often it comes up with a black cicle with a broad black diagonal bar through it. it will still work and click, but its so irritating its driving me up the wall. can anyone tell me whats gone wrong, do i need a new mouse, or is it something in the hard drive making it do that?

you have clicked on the roller bit in the middle of the mouse, it's designed to do it

just click on the roller again and it goes away

Is it the same mouse pointer you get when you try to drag a file onto the taskbar? If so, it sounds like the mouse pointers are mixed up. Try looking in the Control panel and changing your mouse pointers.
