what you will already need to have is a broadband internet connection and a router with a spare socket on the back (ethernet socket).

what you will then need to buy is a Xbox 360 games console, there are masses of offers just now so its a matter of shopping around but to give you an idea, this is a very good deal just now:

    http://www.gamestation.co.uk/discountaddall.asp?discountid=619

    apparently its £179.99 instore.

you can get a cheaper console but having a hard drive is a good future proof idea, the one i linked to has a hard drive.

its then a matter of any extras you/he may want, eg rechargeable battery packs etc for the wireless contoller.

it depends on his tv as to which lead you will need to connect the console with, some leads come in the box.

    any other questions? just ask.

p.s Xbox live is basically the ability to play your games online against other real players. you get 1 months sub inc. when you buy your console. a years sub after the 1st month costs £25 - £40 depending on where you purchase from.

lets see if I can help...
first does your dear son have an xbox 360 console...
secondly do you have a broadband connection with a wireless router...
if yes to both then does your dear son have a wireless dongle on the back of his console or is it connected up via a cable...

xbox live comes in 2 forms
silver membership which is free this gives you the ability to chat to your friends online via a headset you get with the console and to download some demo games a week after they become available to gold memberships...

the gold membership dose all this except you can download stuff straight away...no waiting...and you can play co-op mode in games with your mates...
best place to buy this is
    www.play.com

    wireless dongle
    http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/719752/Official-Xbox-360-Wireless-Network-Adapter/Product.html

    3 months gold membership...
    http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/860178/Xbox-Live-3-Month-Gold-Membership-Card/Product.html

    12 months gold membership...
    http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/860394/Xbox-Live-12-Month-Gold-Membership-Card/Product.html

or if you have a visa or mastercard you can go onto xbox live on the console and buy the gold membership there...cost alittle bit more than the prices at play.com...

also to set up xbox live on the console you'll need an email address to register with xbox live at
    www.xbox.com
    https://live.xbox.com/en-GB/signup/GamerCard.aspx?Check=true

go to sign in right hand top corner and register there...
    a free msn.com email address...
don't get the paid version as it isn't worth it when you can get an msn email address for free...
set this up before you buy the gold membership...
    hths
    :D

Me and a friend have both used that site. It is totally legit. He will just email you the code. Definitely the cheapest place to get one, although when I bought mine it was £24.99, so looks like the credit crunch has hit him too.

in that case then all you need is either a ethernet cable or the wireless adapter and a 12 month subscription and maybe a game to play on LIVE if he hasnt got one already
  • You don't want to put you card details on to your xbox 'cus you can't get them off again, just get the cards for live and points, it's safer.
Nothing to see here, move along.
