Mobile phone contract

Options
Hello, me again.

I currently have a mobile phone contract with 02 which is £65/month (I'm out of the office a lot and there's a £10 supplenment for Blackberry which is pretty much essential). Perhaps I'm allowed to keep it as I'm paying up-front for it every month?

But when I go BR, and if it is shut, is there anyway I can keep the number do you think?

I owe you all a pint.

Hmm good question....usually if no debt is incurred with a mobile contract & your surplus allows it you can keep mobiles without question....BUT £65 a month will really depend on your OR I doubt they'll allow so much TBH do you have a landline at home as well?? the OR will probably want you to downgrade to a cheaper tarrif...if you can prove to the OR the reasons & need for so much a month for a mobile you might be lucky who knows

  • I'd love to downgrade to a cheaper tarrif! When I took the contract out, I was using it fully, but not so much now. The only trouble is I'm a year into an 18month contract and I struggle to imagine O2 being reasonable about letting me downgrade as a bankrupt.

    Nothing ventured however!

Thanks again Phil, Nic or Amy.

Its worth a try....although the OR will probably say if it cant be downgraded then close it

I had my contract with o2 & they did allow me to downgrade to a cheaper tarrif..binned them in the end though

  • Thanks again Phil,

I should have taken it out in the Ltd Company's name, but if I do have to bin it, at least it will save me more money each month. I'm starting to look on some of these annoyances as blessings in disguise. My wife just got herself a £7500 loan over two years to allow us to buy two cars to make up for losing the ones we currently pay £600/month for and will never own. The monthly repayments are £340, so that's a great saving each month alone.

The more I go through this, the more I can see why I'm going bankrupt and the more I may suggest to the OR that he slaps a BRO on me.

Its a rough rollercoaster ride for sure.....it'll seem like more downs than up but in the end its all worth the hassle & effort

You should be able to downgrade by one tarriff per month. I'm with O2 and have the same problem as you in that I have a tarriff that I'm not using fully each month. I also have an 18 month contract which started in March and I've been told I can start downgrading in December and can do that each month until I get to the level I need/want.
  • Thanks Mich,

I'm surprised O2 would consider doing it, but I guess any money is better for them than none. I'll let you know how I get on.
