Real life clown at the Halifax

the Halifax policy cover is substantially different to that of other Insurers - as any insurance broker would be able to advise policholders.
The list of differences is great but some of the more salient differences are;
The Halifax defintion of contents excludes mobile phones, windsurfers surfboards,.
Halifax advise that inter alia if you do not protect furniture and floor coverings when decorating or doing DIY, then they "may reduce the claim payment or mat refuse a claim".
The Halifax define pair set or suite as " contents in your home, floor tilesand solid wood and laminate floors internal wall coverings fitted furniture and sanitary ware in the same room" - which suggests if you do not take out their matching of items cover, they will only pay for the damaged bit of flooring or wallpaper!
Halifax exclude amongst many many things damage through misuse of alcohol or drugs. Any loss, damage or liability caused directly or indirectly by the misuse of alcohol or you or any of your family being under the influence of alcohol or drugs (except those prescribed by your or their registered medical practitioner, but not when prescribed for the treatment of drug addiction). ( So don't get drunk)
Halifax will not pay for storm damage to a flat felt roof that is more than 10 years old
Halifax will not pay for damage to pitch fibre pipes ( so if you have a house built between the 1960s and 1980s that could have pitch fibre pipes, this is not a policy for you)
The point being, as per the original post - Halifax Insurance is sales driven not product or customer satisfaction driven, and furthermore their policy is very different to other Insurers.0 -
I dislike banks in the main BUT
they are a business and have massive tax bills, staff bills, property bills etc etc etc. They need to make money.
Go on the other forums about people not paying their mortgage or being over paid by a bank and asking if they have to pay it back. They are a business and are after your custom - politely decline if asked.
if you don't like it you can take your business elsewhere - pay your mortgage by direct debit if you don't want to go in the bank!0 -

I don't disagree with you. Of course I could pay my mortgage by Direct Debit. However all I was saying is that these people who I once thought of as professionals, now make me laugh. It is not their fault it is the companies directors. The same directors who oversaw the demise of the bank. Personally If I was asked to do that I'd be looking for another job very quickly. It is the thin edge of the wedge. What next?

Flame, obviously you don't work for Halifax anymore, else you would have known about Merlin taking on the claims work as we have been informed by the Merlin loss adjusters, that this work will be coming through their network, don't you have any friends left at Halifax keeping you informed.0

Banks high level management has been in cloud cookoo land for years. Far gone are the days of respected profesionalism that you would assosiate with a bank. Nowadays its all playing games in a team before the branch opens, having competitions to see who can get the most credit card applications and disciplinaries for whoever doesnt hit thier sales targets.
Banks have to make money but greed got in the way. If they went back to the old school - Taking deposits and re-lending, keeping a nice buffer, things would be ok and people might still respect banks. Its just all a bit too gimmicky these days. The staff hate it just as much as customers. Its a shame the higher level management cant see that.0 -

Obviously you know my friends better than I do.
Merlins have dealt with Halifax claims for months, as have CLUK, Crawfords and Davies (these 3 for years). Always have done. Most claims are still dealt with in house.0 -

Flame, you have contradicted yourself, you now are saying Merlin are now doing claims when previously, as stated above, you said they weren't! I'm led to believe from a good source that this account was won from CL, obviously you're not at Halifax now (what did you do......jump a sinking ship! or put on gardening leave for posting on this site!);)0 -

hmm yes, i agree that most people see bank staff as professionals. However, the people sat behind the counter earn about £10,000 to £12,000 per year and are no more professional (Generally speaking) than any other person on £10,000 per year.
A lot of older people think that the bank is professional - it is not the case.0 -

Merlins picked up a different specialist account from cluk- they already dealt with the subs outsourced work. Normal claims still remains within hgisl, utlising outsourced adjusters where capacity isnt present- pretty much like most insurers.
I wasnt pushed, nothing was said, but I did think my timing was impeccable! :rotfl:0
