Day trip to Calais What to buy?

Hi
We are thinking about doing a pre christmas day trip to Calais and are wondering what to look out for and what the savings are.

Thanks in advance!

  • If you are planning to go to Cite Europe (the large shopping centre in Calais), be careful when shopping in Carrefor (?) if you've already bought goods in other alcohol retailers.
We went last year, and a friend got some cases of wine in Tesco (really cheap as I remember). When we tried to go into Carrefor we were refused because she had stuff from Tesco. She had to wait outside whilst 2 of us went in, and then we had to wait with her shopping whilst she went in.
It was stupid because the shopping had stickers and bags on saying sold by Tesco, so it wasn't because they were worried she might have pinched stuff from there and try to say she got it elsewhere.
It wasn't the end of the world, but it spoilt our trip (the man on the entrance was extremely rude), plus we were on a tight time schedule.

At the moment if you get a P&O ferry from dover to calais you get a free £25 crate of wine. They are only charging £24 for the ferry per car load. Cant afford not to go to be honest.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
  • Also 6% back on Quidco and an additional £1.50 for Dover Calais crossings.

I would personally avoid Cite Europe and drive to Bolougne (about 15 minutes away) and go to the Auchan Hypermarket. Much better deals, although smaller hypermarket. You need to take the 2nd Exit off the motorway.

They had some fab boxes of Chardonnay for 6 euros - bought 3 in the hope it would be somewhat palatable and kicked myself because it was really quiter decent....should have chanced it and got more!
  • Don't forget to use your clubcard in the Tesco in Cite Europe!
