Forensic Road Collision Investigator Course

Hi,

Just wondering if one of you kind people out there could give me some advice.

I'm looking into possible careers and after some research i discovered about being a forensic road collision investigator and very much like the sound of it.

Then i found out about a relevant course which is awarded by DeMontfort Uni and the Insitute of Traffic Accident Investigators. Its a 32 week external course which comes to a cost of about £2400.

The only thing is this is a lot of money for me and was wondering what funding support was open to me, i mean is it just like a normal uni degree where tuition loan and maintenence grants are avaliable?

Any thoughts or ideas would be very appreciated

How good at maths are you ? and how much do you like maths. It really is the major part of the course and then who would you think you would work for ? insurance companies maybe.
  • Hi I remember this position being advertsied locally to me about 6 months ago. They weren't looking for experience (I guess it's hard to come by) and so training would be undertaken whilst working presumably on the job and then attending an external course. Can you not just find out which /department does this locally to you and see if you can get in that way?

    Just a thought.

    Good luck.

Are there many jobs in this field? As much as I am for education for the joy of learning and being interested in what you are studying, this seems like a very specialised course, and fairly vocational. If there are few jobs in the area then is it really worth your money? Forensic science interests lots of people each year but so few jobs come up each year.

If you could get into another way then that might be better for you. I don't think external courses qualify for funding, but there might be something the university could offer you. You'd need to contact them and ask.

It's distance learning, and not undergraduate degree-level, so you're unlikely to get any funding. Check with De Montfort to see how others fund it.

Though no-one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.
