I need help please

My husband signed up for a driving instructor course back in March and things have not gone as we expected. My husband was looking forward to having something new to look forward as he headed towards retirment. This has all been very upseting as there have been several issues and he went back to dicuss these with the course trainers but there was never anyone available when he finally when he finally saw someone they strangely had a manager there to see him who told him he did not have a leg to stand on and he would have to pay the full ammount £3,640 by the end of March or else. We are in a quandary as although we have the money I feel agrieved to pay it in full and would pay a percentage to get them off our back. Could anyone advise or has anyone come across this before and what happened?

Regards

  • Aunt Sally - you need to ask advice somewhere where you will get more expert help.

Continue asking on here, as the legal advice is usually good, but also ask on https://www.adiforum.co.uk where the driving instructors may be able to help.

    Which company was it?

Some of the companies are notorious for this unfortunately and when they say you do not have a leg to stand on they may or may not be right. You could also check to see if they are registered with the DSAs ORDIT Scheme, which though it does not give you any specific guarantees, does give you somewhere to complain to (do it vigorously, but without rhetoric). They may not help, but your complaint may be added to others which the DSA will use to get the company to change their policies.

With some of the companies there are legal procedings being brought by groups of individuals who feel that they have been dealt with badly.

It is also worth talking to both Trading Standards and CAB. Again, they may not be able to get anything concrete done, but if you are seen to be taking this seriously it will put more pressure on the company to come to an agreement. Consider contacting the local press with your story. It may be worth contacting some of the driving instructor associations - unless you're a member of them they won't be able to help directly, but some of may publicise your experience, again placing pressure on the company.

You haven't actually described what the problems your husband encountered with whatever organisation he signed up with to train to be a driving instructor.

Key Point - What is the question??

The paragraph skirts around without actually saying anything someone could help with.
