I have posted this in the i wanna buy it forum but thought this place might be more suitable..
I'm looking to buy a laptop..
Never bought one before so could do with a bit of advice.
I'm going to be buying from http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ as it's not far from me and I can go collect.
Can anyone recommend me a laptop for mainly internet use, movie viewing and gaming (nothing too graphic intense).
Budget is around £350, looking for 2gb ram.
I have looked on the site but there's so many to choose from I'm a bit lost..

I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

Hi
Looking at the front page of the laptopsdirect website under their special deals there are two that are attractive
(1) The Samsung r60 plus is a good machine and I know as I have one myself. It will do all you want and looks very good. It got very good reviews when it came out and is good for the money.
(2) The other machine that is attractive is the Acer aspire 4920 with a very good spec and a slightly smaller screen.
Both machines (and all new laptops) come with vista which I do not like. There is NO option to downgrade to XP with the Samsung and there have been stories that with the Samsung it is prone to crashes. There is however a restore disk inbuilt into the Samsung
Hope this helps0 -
Both those machines will do BASIC gaming but for anything ambitious you will need to get a higher spec machine and thus more expensive0

I agree with Mike above
Don't overspend on a laptop unless you 'need' to play action games or edit video. £400 max these days.
Have a look at the two machines Mike suggests and decide if you like the smaller screen of the Acer - it may also be lighter.
Dell do some good laptop deals too - for others reading this thread.
I'm running Vista quite happily on this Dell laptop - so don't be too worried if you end up with Vista.0
