scht17 speakers to pv500 plasma and dvd recorder help?

Anyone got the scht17 home cinema system with pv500 and dvd recorder,i am trying to set up the amp player with the plasma and recorder and becuase it did not come with leads i am not sure what is needed,it comes with a remote that can also control the tv and recorder and on the instructions it has component cables,audio cable,video cables and optical cable and i am pretty sure all these are needed as there are need to make everything work with that remote,its hooked up right now but only with phone leads but its a hassle to use so many controls and im still sure its not set up right.
If i set it up like it says in the instructions i take it then this will sort it out,the plasmas,sky and recorder are already set up with scarts but i am sure the leads i have now are not right for the set up meaning its a nightmare to work out what buttons to use and what is the right remote to use for each function.
It would be great if someone had this speakers and told me in detail how they did it etc.
Also where would the best places to get such leads and on the high street in well known stores and cheapest prices also would my local tesco sell such cables.
I could go to maplins and get what i need when i go to my nearest city soon as im sure they are good with prices.
Let me know,also woolworths any good for cables?
