Maxthon Browser help please

I've just installed it and am generally very pleased with it.

I've got a nice set of tabs set up but what's bugging me is how do you set it so that when you click on a link (that would normally open in a new window) to open in the same tab instead of opening in an adjacent one which you then have to select?

Any advice much appreciated.

Go FireFox as Maxthon has a few problems of late.

I was a regular Maxthon user before I switched to Opera. I still use it occasionally when I need M$ IE compatibility. It had a few problems a while ago, but recent releases run fine.

The easiest way to open a link in another tab is to "drag" the link a small distance (i.e. click on the link and move the mouse a small way before releasing the button). There are other ways, but that's the one I use.
What I miss in Maxthon is Opera's ability to shift-click on a link and open it in a new tab in the background (without switching to it)...

Actually I am trying to find how to click on a link and it NOT open a new tab. Eg if I click on an external link from this site I would like it to open in the same tab I am already using.

I find too many tabs open confusing.

Thanks Chippy but I have unchecked everything in the New Tab dialogue but I still always get a new tab.

I hate to one of the people who don't answer the quetion but suggest something else...

But I like Avant much better than I like Maxthon.
I tried Maxthon again just a few days ago to see if I liked it, but decided I liked Avant much better (though my main browser is Firefox)
