Any free audio input via USB software please?

Hello everyone.
I've just bought a cable that has the red, white and yellow connectors to a USB connector and was wondering if anyone knew of any free software that would recognise and record the audio input please?
Many thanks in advance.
Pete.

audacity or sound recorder in vista

When I plug the USB cable my PC doesn't seem to recognise it and Audacity and sound recorder just record from the mic.

    have you installed the drivers?

They can record from any sound input, presumably this gadget simulates a line-in

I bought the cable from Ebay and no drivers were supplied :o

So there's just a cable with the phono sockets or whatever on one end and a USB connector on the other with no circuitry at all or a box of any type inbetween?

If that's the case, there's no way in hell it's going to work as there needs to be an analogue to digital converter somewhere inbetween the two ends as well as a chip which basically talks to the PC so unless there's a box or the USB plug is a particularly large plastic housing for a USB connector, it's useless.

Even without any drivers, when you plugged it in it should have started the "Add New Hardware" wizard unless it's a useless cable.
