Hello all :hello: I've read lots of topics, and I'm going to ask a common question.
I've been lazy, not shopped around for the best deals and although we hardly use the phone we pay £900 a year with BT.
I want to change, but looking at all the different suppliers its dfficult to compare. If you have an opinion as to who is offering the best deals please tell me. As I say don't use the phone much, do have internet accesss though.

You pay £75 per month but do not use the phone much? Scratches head. Even if you're paying £28 for internet and the full £13.25 line rental that's only £41.25. I wouldn't call £30 of call charges per month 'not using the phone much.'
Can you explain more what you're paying for as your initial description does not really add up.0 -
Hi kim thanks for your reply.
I pay for the internet separtly (not even sure what thats costing, but I get a separate invoice) I believe the phone is on the BT Together tarriff? thing is its only my wife who uses the phone to speak to her mum, otherwise we use our mobile phones. We have thought about just disconecting from the phone completely, but we would miss the internet access. I'm really just asking if there is an obvious cheap supplier? I'd heard the Post Office is good? all idea welcome.:beer:0 -
The Post Office include all evening and weekend calls plus at the weekend they also include all calls to mobiles and calls to their top 20 international destinations. They don't charge extra for non direct debit payments. No minimum contract. £10.95/month.0

I think i pay Virgin / Telewest about £30 a month, thats for TV basic channels , Broadband, and phone, most calls are included, i'm not sure why i pay for some others, but if you don't use it much, should'nt be a lot more.A good cowboy always drinks upstream from the herd.

If your broadband is paid seperately and you only use the phone for the odd call how on earth are you paying £75 a month to BT for your phone. Can you provide a breakdown of your monthly/quarterly bill?0

If your wife is phoning her mother for long periods of time, and you dont have inclusive calls for the time of the day/week the calls are made then the cost of calls can soon build up. EG 60 minute peak geographical call on BT costs£2.47 including connection.
Quick fix subscribe to www.18185.co.uk where geographical calls cost just 5p a call.
Then get online billing line rental only £10.50 a month, and add a FREE Evening and Weekend Call bundle. Either BT or Primus .

For just 45p more the post office gives you (on top of all the usual 01/02 evening and weekend calls free) the free weekend calls to mobiles + the free international calls + paper billing, and no direct debit is neccessary (or primus).0

How about their peak 01/02 calls, chargeable caller display, poor billing/ customer service.
Can you use 18185 with them? Will moving to them affect his broadband?0 -

Surely you're not saying you spend £774 with BT on call charges?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Are you asking these questions because you really want answers, or are they in some way rhetorical?
In case you don't know the answers (and accepting There's no such thing as a stupid question") I answer them as follows:
The question is about saving money - not customer service etc.
You cannot be saying it's worth staying with BT for their customer service?
The obvious answer to paying for calls during the peak period is not to use your line provider (be it Bt/Post Office or anyone else), but to use 18185 etc.
Changing supplier to the post office doesn't affect broadband. Caller display if you want it is an extra charge. (You could offset it - if it was an issue - somewhat by using quidco to switch and getting cashback)0
