Deposit Not Back - Moved Out of Flat in August
I moved out of my rented flat at the end of August this year. I paid my deposit immediately upon moving in, and it was secured by the letting agent in the Deposit Protection Service.
I have all the necessary ID's, and have been online (www.depositprotection.com) to request the deposit back. I have also rang and e-mailed the agent. They left a message on my phone saying it would be paid back (2 weeks ago) but this has not been done.
Long story short, could anyone tell me what options I now have? I've looked on the website, and seen there is some sort of claims process...but could someone explain how this works?
Any advice appreciated, thanks!

The easiest way is to contact the LA/LL and find out the situation regarding them having authorised the return.
If you get no luck, then make a single claim as described here:

It can sometimes help if you write them a stiff sounding letter. I had trouble getting my deposit back from the last place I rented, despite promise after promise from the agency. So, after a month of trying I wrote them a legal sounding letter requesting return of the deposit within seven days or I'd open a case with them with the relevant authorities, and wrote 'letter before action' in bold across the top. Then I sent it recorded delivery. It arrived on Friday morning and I got a cheque for the full amount on Saturday morning
Always worth trying a letter first. 0
