Hi I temporarily left my backplate and fire grate outside in the rain and whilst there was some discoloration to the items having been burnt etc, the rain has turned them yellow. is there anything I can do?

I would think that once you replace them, and light a fire they will return to their usual sooty colour (I'm assuming this is a 'real' fire) failing that i have no idea but I am curious how they came to be out in the rain!

rub them down and wash them with a cleaning solvent.
then paint them with summat like hammerite high temp paint. they do spray cans in black and a few other colors.

you can buy high temp paint for exhausts, at car acc shops.
    Get some gorm.

i took them out of the fireplace and moved them offside pending collection by the ebayer. However, this morning i looked out at the garden and saw they had changed colour.!
  • The yellow is a slight bit of rust. Use a wire brush on the grate to remove loose bits and some of the colouration then using the grate in the fire again will remove/hide the rest.
