  • exactly lol. basically you can only renew with the same company for a whole year but if you get out a new quote with one of their sister companies it is miles cheaper than you renewal quote for a year and you can do it for ten months again. did mine between admiral and elephant and will be at 4 yrs in january when i will be going with priveledge who is the cheapest. am tempted to not drive for the next month so i dont loose it!

Thank you for all your remarks. I have 3 year NCB and recently went 4 a 10 month as it was a more cheaper. Reading all your comments i have come to the conculsion the matter is a grey area until the insurance companies come clean.

It WOULD be "more cheaper" if you were only getting 10 months rather than 12.

    Just to resurect this...

If I divide the 10 month premium quote by 10 and the 12 month premium quote by 12, the difference comes to about £1.10 per month overall (=net difference is about £12 for a 10 Vs 12 month policy)

The monthly cost is about the same, the benefit is you get a years NCD quicker with a 10-month policy rather than a 12-month one.

Incidentally last year I changed from Elephant (where I had 10-month policies) to Esure (on a 12-month policy which thinking about it must be up for renewal soon - time to get searching!), after Elephant whacked up my premium by a ridiculous amount after I got 3 points on my licence. Esure were happy with my proof of no-claims that I had on my Elephant renewal.
