  • i received a bill through my topshop store card in feb 09 for 69.99 from privacy guard as id sent off for my credit report back in dec 08. though i never did they are still trying to charge me for it. i rang them on 0800 085 2150 to get it cancelled (though they say you have to ring a month before the end of the contract date BUT you can cancel it there and then as they hope you will forget and will charge you 70 quid again) as i never sent off for it or if i had then i would have received my credit report but i never received anything. i believe they are charging me for a contract i never took out with them so i rang 0845 404 0506 for advice and they told me to send a letter to privacy guard asking for evidence i had taken this contract out with them but until this is sorted i have rang topshop to stop interest adding to this bill if it isnt dealt with by the bills due date. for anyone considering privacy guard id stay well clear!!!
  • A quick heads up, PrivacyGuard is owned and operated by the same company as Sentinel Card Protection, that being Affinion International. An Amerian company. About the same racket, and same staff working behind the scenes. Employed by them currently, morally, it hurts, but it pays the petrol, mortgage, and well, the rest ;)
  • ive had privacy guard mail shots from a couple of different companies. it quite clearly states a couple of times in the letter there is a charge if you dont cancel and even gives you the number to cancel! fair enough it does say free all over it...but its advertising what do you expect it needs to be eye catching. It even gives the charge details and the phone number next to the box where you sign. so if you dont recieve a welcome pack from them why dont you call and see where it is? packages do get lost in the post everyday! so how is this fraud?

i signed up for privacy guard got my welcome pack in around 10 days, got my credit report a week later and cancelled within the free trail, without charge. So i was given everything that the mailshot offerred. so dont blame the company if YOU were too stupid to sign something without reading it!

Yes i have had the same problem with PRIVACYGUARD through BARCLAYCARD, Apparently i agreed to a free 30 day credit report from a Barclaycard mail promotion, they claimed i signed in December 2008 which i have never,Privacyguard claim they sent me a welcome pack which i have never received, meanwhile i'm 3 monthly payments of £7.99 out of pocket.
The Privacyguard agent who works through Barclaycard has promised to send me a copy of the agreement with my signature on it(phoned Wednesday 04/03/09 still waiting) to establish if this is fake.   :mad:These big companies are making millions of £££s from unsuspecting innocent people through legal loophole scams and theF.S.A. are powerless to stop them.

Under the "Freedom of Information Act" they must give you a copy of any legal document you have sign.

I had this come through when I got my Tesco CC. It is infact just a subscription with Experian..

    Yes. It is!

I was offered this product via Lloyds recently.
£1 for the first month then £6.99 monthly thereafter.

It provides a similar like service to Credit Expert (Experian) and Equifax with regards to online credit reports and Identity theft etc.
And the information only contains account data, payment history etc held about you with Experian - NOT EQUIFAX.

Only other difference to mention is that it includes a credit score as well, which costs a seperate £5.99 or similar with Credit Expert ...if you need it?

we've also been debited £79.99 by Barclaycard - signed up for PrivacyGuard for the free trial - never received a welcome pack - then had statement saying £79.99 so called to cancel - and PG say we were outside the 30 days trial so can't cancel! Barclaycard said take it up with PG - so we've written twice. First time, back in January they wrote and said they'd 'arrange appropriate refund' but unfortunately I lost the letter. So I rang and asked them to send it -they have no record of it. Wrote to them again asking for a refund, had another letter saying 'no' so phoned them and asked for copy of their earlier letter (from January ). Today they sent me a further copy of the letter from March!!! And they are adamant that they have a wonderful audit system which ensures I definately had a welcome pack!

I got a phonecall a month or so ago from who I thought was Burtons, trying me to take a free trial of Privacyguard. I told them repeatedly I didn't want it but was told it was a free trial and I could cancel at any time, blah, blah, blah.

I agreed just to get rid of them. Today I phoned up to clear my Burtons account and was told I have a charge of £69.99 from Privacyguard on the account. They gave me a number and told me to call Privacyguard to cancel and arrange a refund. I phoned them up and I can cancel but the £69.99 is non-refundable, which is c***! I was never told any money would be taken off in one lump sum.

Does anyone know of anywhere I can write to to try and get the money refunded? Is it worth a shot?

I received a statement from Freemans catalogue about a week ago saying that I owed £79.99 for Pguard so I rang them only to be told I would have to ring PrivacyGuard (PG) direct. I then rang PrivacyGuard only to be told that even if I cancel it I would still have to pay the money as I'm outside the 30 day free trial - which I knew nothing about!

I have complained to both Freemans and PrivacyGuard saying I would contact the Ombudsman but PG have said it is not their fault as they just receive the signed slips from Freemans or other companies. PG has sent me a copy of the signed slip with my signature on - I still do not remember signing anything for them! I am completely confused as to what I signed as I would never have willing signed anything for a credit report even if it was free!

Freemans have said they will try and cancel it - removing the amount from my statement - however I have reservations and am not pinning my hopes on this.

Does anyone have any advice or managed to get the amount deducted?
