Can you claim for a faulty appliance on home insurance?

Hi,
I've got a faulty washer/dryer which is getting incredibly hot and doing a few bizarre things which caused some damage to the kitchen work surface that is above where the washer/dryer is housed.
We need to get the work surface replaced and am currently getting a quote for that to pass on to More Than, who provide our home insurance. Can we also claim for a new washer/dryer as part of the claim as it is faulty?
There is nothing in the insurance information to suggest either way and despite having accidental damage cover for both buildings and contents, I'm not sure if this situation is covered under that.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

As the machine was faulty then no this would not be covered under your Insurance Policy as this is a maintenance issue. Has your Insurance Company said they will pay for the new work surface?0

Hi
You can't claim for breakdown or faulty appliances under your home insurance policy.
I would be surprised if your insurers would pay for the work surface as you state that the aplpiance has been faulty and you have done nothing to minimise the risk.
So you don't have a similar experience in the future, you may want to consider taking out cover for your appliances.
There are lots of companies offering appliance breakdown cover now which you can buy as a stand alone product and they usually cover a number of products up to 5 years old and are much cheaper than the extended warranties you'll be sold by the retailer.
Try these websites:

and the BBC website has this article about this very subject:

Hope this is helpful0
