Holdiay to florida - concerns

We have recently won a holiday to Florida however, I have received the confirmation today of travel etc, and i have some reservations, the prize itself is fine, 7 days in Disney resort travel with British Airways from Gatwick, transfers included, 7 day disney premium pass to the parks for all 5 of us. However, we need spending money including food money as meals are not included, (how much should we allow we will be staying for 6 nights), on the check list it says if hotel accomodation is included as part of your prize you will be required to produce a valid credit card upon check in. We do not have any, we have terrible credit and only have debit cards. Should i be panicking? do we definately need a visa/mastercards for this purpose?

  • As far as I know, you'll be asked to leave either a print of your credit card, or a substantial amount of cash (I believe it's $1000)

hello you will need to leave a some form of deposit at the hotel, Take your debit card with you they will take a copy of that, I dont see why they might need as much as 1000 dollars.

The hotels usually just take a copy of your card just if you use room service or the mini bar then the cost is usually debited from the card at the end of your stay

  • I would contact Disney and explain the situation and ask there advice. As it is a prize they should arrange something. Eating out in Florida is very cheap as they have a lot of all you can eat type restaurants at about $5 a head and most include a soft drink. My advice would be to have an all you can eat breakfast, bring a backpack with drinks and snacks to Disney with you and have an all you can eat dinner in the evening. You can also have your own drinks and snacks in the room as most American hotel rooms have a fridge. This is what we do and the beauty of all you can eat restaurants is that there is something for everyone even the fussiest children. Hope this helps and have a ball.
  • If you are staying at a Disney hotel , without a car you will be restricted to dining at the parks or hotels , you can get shuttle buses to take you around the Disney resorts , plus you can go to downtown disney , there are a few restaurants there .
there are loads of forums out there that can give you advice , the best is probably www.thedibb.co.uk , and you can also find menus and prices for the many Disney eating places , it doesnt have to be expensive .

Its probably best you contact the hotel you are staying at with reference to the debit card thing , I have had to use a debit card once for the same thing for a hotel in London , and they like to take a fair size chunk of money or rather put a hold on it . You could suggest they dont provide a mini bar in your room , that might help.

There is an awful lot to see in just 7 days , but you will have a great time

every hotel in u.s ive stayed at wanted a credit card..like the others said though id ask the people that you won the prize from

eating ...well it depends if you can get around , disney is fairly dear but if you can get out n about fast food places have $1 menus and a decent sit down meal can be about $7-12 if you shop around , usualy a managers special on or something . in general its a good bit cheaper than here to eat , and you get more

does the hotel not include breakfast? if it does that could tide you over for most of the day
  • disney accept Electron and solo cards as well as the more common debit cards as long as the Visa or Mastercard symbol is on them. I personally have used Electron there. they dont actually charge your card until your check out. Hav eyou thought of a pre paid card such as Crew Card, were you put the money on before you spend it.

  • Check out the pricing for disney restaurant on www.allearsnet.com, they are quite accurate. If you ahve a car then the eating opportunies are endless and dont be afraid to present coupons the americans do it all the time.

Im just back from Disney Resort (Pop Century) and did not give them any card details. They have took them previously though however, I think it is more for the express check-out (not having to go to the check-out desk when leaving). If they want id just show passport. As for getting around there, just use the local buses as they go to and from Disney - International Drive, Universal Studios etc (latter require to transfer to another bus but drivers very helpful so just ask)
